This is the shortened, no-hiking version of the Lake Burera Active Cruise. It spares you 1-2 hours of walking and doesn’t include the northern shore. Because the starting and ending point are the same, you can come with your own vehicle.
The listed price applies when we have 5 participants or more.
This a morning version of the itinerary; you can also do it in the afternoon.
10am: You should be at the Ntaruka landing, just after the Ntaruka power plant — there will be an engine boat awaiting you.
Safe in life jackets you will cruise to Birwa I island, a 10-minute ride. The biggest of the islands, it hosts a primary school and a village. To spare you the climb, the youthful dancers, storytellers and craftmakers will come to the lakeshore to greet you.
10:30am: The boat will continue towards Munanira, the island that fishermen often use as their base. They will have a fish snack ready for you. (If their current location is elsewhere, the itinerary will be adjusted accordingly.)
11:30am: The third island on your program will be Cyuza. Cyuza’s inhabitants have been moved to the shore by the government to ease service provision, and a private investor has turned it into a paradise for budget travellers. This is a magnificent site for volcano views, and for your bottled refreshment. (Here, a little gradual walk to the restaurant area is not required but definitely recommended.)
12:30pm: You will be back to your car at Ntaruka.
