UPDATE, 15/12/2020: Just-released coronavirus measures by Rwanda’s Office of the Prime Minister prohibit any celebrations this month. Plan to be with us a year later — we are going to do the same program on 31/12/2021 instead.
A breathtakingly unique way to celebrate the arrival on 2022!
31/12/2021, 5:30pm: We recommend you arrive at Byiza Lodge overseeing Lake Ruhondo and Lake Burera by this time, to fully take in the sunset views.
6:30pm: You will be served a buffet with options for meat lovers and vegetarians.
7:30pm: The unbelievable year of 2021 will be presented through the lens of the Gorilla Highlands team, with a 30-minute slide presentation.
8pm: Various games, music and humorous moments will entertain you until the time comes...
31/12/2021, 10:30pm: With candles in hand you will make it down to Lake Burera, by car or on foot. A motorboat will be park at Ntaruka to take you to where Burera fishermen operate.
11:45pm: In the middle of the lake, fishermen will check their nets as you prepare for the big moment — champagne, candles and more will make it even more special.
1/1/2022, 00:00: Floating candles, 21 of them, will be released onto the lake surface — and later of course duly collected. Soon afterwards your boat, and the vessel that belongs to fishermen, will make it to Cyuza Island.
00:30am: You will be invited to try out the first catch of 2021, quickly prepared by our fishing experts.
Cyuza Island (pictured behind the boats) is a backpacker paradise but not really suitable for everyone — it only offers tents. We have two alternatives for you, in different pricing ranges:
• Montana Vista Hotel just a couple of kilometres away from the lake, with double rooms with breakfast priced from RWF 45,000 to 60,000 — see “More Photos” for a photo collage
• Byiza Lodge where our program started from; RWF 110,000 for a double with breakfast — see “More Photos” for a photo collage
We will make all the necessary arrangements with local authorities to make this transfer possible. The way to Montana Vista will include a 40-minute boat ride.
